What's Holding You Back From Truly Letting Go and Letting God?

One of the biggest things we struggle with as a believer in God is how to fully “Let go, and Let God.” I am a witness to God’s great work in my life, but I still struggle with fully casting all of my worries on Him. I often ask myself why is this so hard to do, and how can I become more comfortable praying about situations and trusting that God is ALWAYS in control. Here are some things I have observed about myself and I hope that it can help you recognize what may be holding you back from letting GO and letting GOD:
MY FAITH IS NOT AS STRONG AS I THINK:
Yes, I believe in God and I have witnessed first-hand what He is capable of; however, when it comes to certain situations in my life, I worry. My sorority sister used to always say “why worry when you can pray and why pray if you’re going to worry?” She is absolutely right! Its times like these, when I have to stop and ask God for renewed faith in Him. There are times when things seem so grim and out of reach but that is when God shows you who He is. We just have to believe and most importantly TRUST.
I BELIEVE I CAN HANDLE IT ON MY OWN:
There is no problem too big or too small for our God. Sometimes I think that my little problem is not important to God and take it upon myself to try and handle it. That’s a big no, no. If at any point during diversity in your life you have to call upon the name of the Lord (i.e. Lord, I hope this pimple goes away before my date LOL) then you need to give it to Him. If you start to look up home remedies for acne on Google and try and cover the pimple by caking on all this makeup, you didn’t trust that God was going to handle it for you. I know this may sound silly but if something is important to you, as a child of God, He is there as our Father to make it right. Again, TRUST that He has it worked out.
I BECOME TOO IMPATIENT WAITING ON GOD:
As human beings we like things to be instant, and that includes our prayers to God. Unfortunately not all prayers are answered right away. So what do we do? We try to solve it ourselves. It is at this moment of impatience where God wants us to seek Him and have faith that he is in control. This is one of the hardest things to do, because the devil will spring into action. You know those cartoons where you see the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other? This really happens ya’ll LOL. The goal of the devil is to cast doubt on how GREAT our God is. If we claim to be true believers in God this is when we have to remember this verse “Be still and know that I am God!” Psalm 46:10. Being still is the challenging part, but when we are still we are able to hear God’s voice more clearly.
WHAT IF I DON’T GET WHAT I PRAYED FOR:
God hears every single one of our prayers. Believe it or not, He answers ALL of them. Heck, He even answers things we don’t pray for. We often pray for things that are NOT in God’s plans for our life. This sucks sometimes because Lord knows how many times I have prayed to win the Lottery. Hasn’t happened the way I prayed for it, but it has happened in the form of me at least winning my spending’s back. See there, prayer answered LOL. I have learned over time that we have to be very specific when we are praying; but honestly that doesn’t mean you will get that prayer answered the way you laid it out. God has the power to see what’s ahead and although we think he hasn’t answered what we asked for, I will bet my last dollar that His plans will be way better. Its cliché but I know first-hand that a delay or denial in our prayers is not a bad thing. Oh, trust me when I say it sucks to not get what you prayed for. Sometimes God shows us later down the line why he delayed or denied our prayer and sometimes he doesn’t. This is when I remember my Dad’s favorite verse “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 This verse has gotten me through a lot of situations that seemed like denials at the time. Hind sight is 22/22 and when God reveals to me why He did what He did, it reaffirms my belief of what an AWESOME God we serve.
See, it’s not so hard to let Go and let God. He is way stronger than us anyway! So, pray about it, let it go and watch how God shows out! Trust me, you won’t be sorry!
