What's Holding You Back?

In life there are so many things we want to do. Whether it be travel the world, start a business, build a family or even go back to school. For me, the ideal life would be being able to work from anywhere in the world motivating married couples and individuals while also providing for my family. So what’s holding me back? I don’t know what’s keeping you from your ideal life, but for me, it’s a couple of things wrapped into one word… FEAR.

Fear of Failure:

My parents always say “nothing fails but a try.” You have no idea how many people have told me that I have great advice, or I should write a book. I mean, it took a lot for me to even start my blog. I’m so glad I did because there are so many people who tell me that what I say has helped them in some way. Before I started, I was afraid that people wouldn’t like what I said or would disagree with me. I had to realize that not everyone would like what I had to say, but some people would and that’s all that matters. I’m not here to please people, I am here to speak my truth and hopefully along the way, say some words that could help or encourage the next person.

Fear of Losing Everything:

I would love to just walk into work one day and say “I’m leaving to go live my purpose.” How awesome would that be? I read stories on-line everyday about people who just up and leave their jobs, pack a suitcase and start a new life in a new country or city. Let me just say this, 9 out of 10 people who do that usually don’t have other people depending on them to eat, sleep and live. Don’t get me wrong, I commend anyone who steps out on faith like that but mama ain’t raise no fool and God gave me common sense to know that things just don’t work like this for most people. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a planner; (sometimes an over planner LOL) and I know that ultimately it’s not my plan but Gods. However, I do like to have an outline for what I am trying to achieve and seek God’s advice when making these plans. Remember that stepping out on faith doesn’t have to be a big jump, it can be small steps to achieve the ultimate goal.

Fear of Rejection:

How many of us have come up with a great plan, product or idea, then start to doubt ourselves? (raises hand). Why do we do that to ourselves? I can tell you why, we are fearful or failure and rejection. Maybe we just don’t know where to start and don’t want to take the time to try and figure it out. Or maybe we had a great idea in the past and it didn’t quite make it off the ground. Whatever our fear is we have to be willing to lose in order to gain. When I say lose I don’t just mean money. We have to willing to sacrifice time, friendships, and assets sometimes. I am a firm believer that whatever God has for you, is for you and nothing can take that away. Believe me people will try, but we are all victorious in the Lord.

So don’t let the F word hold you back from doing something that you love. Have faith that God is there with you. Make plans, set short term goals and research on how to achieve those goals. Confide in your trusted circle on your goals and listen to those who truly support you. When you don’t let fear consume your thoughts, you can achieve so much! So remember, set goals, be fearless and always…
