To Give Up or Wake Up

We often hear the phrase “Never give up.” I used to be a firm believer that a person should never give up on anything. We all know the success of perseverance. I still believe this, but I look at it more as not giving up, but waking up. Let me explain: there are somethings in life we should never give up on, like being a better person or achieving an obtainable goal. However, there are some things and some situations you need to get woke about (bad grammar but the kids love it LOL) #staywoke. Here are some things to help you determine if you are simply giving up, or waking up:

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED…TRY, TRY AGAIN:

This phrase has been a popular one for motivation, but how many times do you need to keep trying? In some situations you need to keep trying until you succeed: in others there is just no winning. We often mistake denial with defeat, when in actuality it is God saying I have something better for you. For example, if you keep trying to make a relationship work and one day you just decide to give up, that is ok. Many times we want something so bad and it’s just not in God’s plans for us. That’s not giving up, that’s waking up. It may take some of us longer than others to realize, that no matter your loyalty and best efforts it’s just not what’s best for you in that season or maybe at all for that matter. If you keep giving and giving, one day you will realize that it’s just not worth you sacrificing your health or time to make what’s not meant to be, be. We have to listen to those around us who love us. Most times, these people are the ones who can see what we can’t. It takes a strong person to swallow their pride and admit to themselves when others are right. Not everyone is judging you for your actions, for we have all made bad decisions or mistakes. The ultimate mistake is when we continue to try in order to prove others wrong. Yes that can be a form of motivation but not as your only motivation to become successful. We should want to be successful for ourselves, not for others and their opinions.

FOCUS ON THE ULTIMATE GOAL:

As human beings we want results now…yesterday if we could have them. The reality is that we need to focus on the ultimate goal. We have to ask ourselves: What are we trying to accomplish in the end? What is it that drives us to keep trying? Are we willing to seek help or advice from others in order to accomplish the goal? Is this goal realistic? How much time are we willing to dedicate to achieving this goal? Am I doing this for me or for others? When we set goals, we have to understand that the road to success will never go as planned so we have to learn from mistakes, overcome roadblocks and change direction if need be. Sometimes our goals change midway through the process and that’s ok. I can bet my last dollar that everyone’s goal is to be happy in the end. Don’t get me wrong, there will be sadness, discouragement and heartache. It is in these times, we start to question if we should move forward or give up. This goes for everything from career goals to relationship goals. The important thing is to know your limits; and by limits I mean financial, physical and emotional. Recognize when it’s time to “let go”. My parents used to tell me all the time, as long as you tried your best that’s all you can do. If you know that you have given it your all and you just can’t give anymore, it may be time to reset your goals and your focus. That can be as simple as letting someone go in order to make room for what God has for you. It could mean leaving a job and taking a pay cut, in order to advance in your career. Just know that whatever decision you make is a learning experience and when you trust and fully rely on God anything is possible.

So I say to you my LMBB Babes, to always shoot for the stars, make your happiness mandatory, give it your all and most importantly…

LIVE BLOUNT-ly!
